TO BUY OR NOT TO BUY A WEBSITE;THAT IS THE QUESTION!
by badboy ini am thinking of buying a website.. not sure which ones..
-
drew sagan
I have some experience in this area.
I would suggest you do not buy. The very fact that you are contemplating purchasing a website off ebay tells me you have little knowledge about the industry.
Build a site from the ground up, that's really the only way.
Are you offering a service, contnet or retail shopping? To make money off of a website it usually is one of those three things. Service based sites are usually started by computer programmers because they require the most work. Content sites can be set up pretty eaisly, but you must supply the content! Retail shopping involves you actually having products you are going to sell. Service and content sites make their money off of the ads that run on the site, retail makes its money off of the sales (duh!).
The only thing that may possibly be worth buying is site that already has users, shoppers, or readers. Don't forget you have to have the visision to make the site better and an agressive stradgey to bring people to the site.
It is tons of work. -

Opinion - What % of JWs are hardcore Kool Aid partakers?
by Gregor inthe recent thread about the 1975 after effects (fall off in members) got me to thinking about the ratio of hardcore, "can't kill 'em with a stick", witnesses to the marginal, "spiritually weak", followers.
for all the backtracking and double talk old freddy caused the gb with his 1975 'vision', they learned a lot about the make up of their followers and were reassured that they have a hardcore majority base that will always be there.
my guess is it is around 80/20.

I think this question is ignorant of a number of imporant factors.
The People Temple was a geographically isolated cult. Many people who drank the posioned Kool-Aid did so because they had guns pointing at their heads. The situation was one of total chaos.
Such things are a result of a group being confronted with disconformation. The Peoples Temple was about to be exposed to the US government. The "writing was on the wall" so to speak. While some groups simply dissolve, regroup, or rethink out their ideas some groups go over the edge. There is no definate way to predict when a group will go harmlessly into the night, or when one will go down in violence.
The Jehovah's Witnesses are not geographically isolated. They do not have their members contained in a compound where the leaders have large stockpiles of weapons. While they do put thier members in harms way through some of their policies (blood, neutrality, ect), it is a very differant situation.
There are some similarities between these two groups, but most are on the way people are psychologocially manipulated into believing the cause. -

"Mind" Blowing Article on Watchtower Indoctrination! MUST READ!
by What-A-Coincidence inthe author (from australia) makes some great points.. http://www.noelbatten.com/watchtower.pdf.
46 pages long.
some excerpts:.

Folks, Noel Batten is a wackadoo and con artist. A medical quack devoid of any credentials whatsoever.
I would like to add (for those who like to grab at articles like this and run with them) that he does not make any references at all to historical apocalyptic religious movements and their behaviors. Much of the Watchtowers history follows certain models of behavior that can found in many other forms. There is a science to it.
Additionally, some of the "shocking" things this guy is saying are mostly common sense conclusions that anybody looking objectively at the group would find.
Not much substance IMO.

Did you ever notice, that all the ex-JW's seem to adopt a religious belief in which they don't have to go forth to make disciples, and allows them to stay at home and not be persecuted?
Any jackass can follow a belief system that will bring on himself persecution and ridicule. That doesn't automatically mean that his beliefs are right.
What rubbish! -

Another email I got. warning gag alert
by loosie ini guess they think that this illustration will make people pioneer.. .
some brothers wonder, why should i pioneer?
they reason, jehovah is merciful, and there will be many who are not pioneers that will make it into the paradise.. .

How absurd. As others have pointed out, this illustration does not work. The donkey that looses what he is in charge of is the good one?
I understand the point of "those who choose to do least may pay for it later" but this illustration does not teach it in any sort of logicial way.
Why not just borrow an aseops fable, at least those usually make sense... -

"Have You Been DF'd? Get Reinstated FAST!" - a new book!
by AlmostAtheist inhas anyone else seen this book?
i'm half-tempted to order it.
the author claims to be a presiding overseer, and claims to have lost his son to suicide after the son was df'd.

Why you still go on Field Service? Why Elders posts on JWD?
by tooktheredpill inthis morning, a poster asked me why i still go on field service:.
just wondering if your conscience bothers you that you are continuing to "spread the jw gospel"?
do you have plans to stop fs soon?

If people want to complain about somebody like you then they obviously have no idea about what makes this board so valuable.
When I first came here I was going out in service, meetings, talks, the works. It was many months before I started to "fade" out of the JWs from when I first became a member here. People helped me with as I made slow progress out of the JWs and then moved to helping my wife out.
Only an ignorant fool would suggest that people who are stuck in the JWs and then post here are hypocrites. It's a comment totally void of any real thought on the dynamics of the subject. -

I'm Happy to Live in a Christian Nation
by BurnTheShips in.
so whats your opinion on the article?.
burn.
-
drew sagan
I love this nation. But I must say that article is filled with hasty generalizations among a whole bunch of fallacious argumentation, as in appeal to emotion, appeal to ridicule, etc. The sort of argumentation you hear from a crazed college sports fan rambling about the rival school.
You took the words right out of my mouth. This article is generic and is nothing more than a biased rant.
